The Role

We’re looking for a Principal AI Engineer to lead Symphonee’s AI engineering strategy and execution — spanning RAG systems, LLM integrations, and agentic frameworks. You’ll drive architectural decisions, set best practices, and grow a high-performing AI engineering team while remaining hands-on across the stack.

This role combines technical depth with leadership scope: you’ll code, mentor, and set direction for how AI is designed, built, and deployed at Symphonee.

This role offers flexible working hours. To collaborate effectively with our global team, we ask for at least 4 hours of daily overlap with CET/CEST.

What You’ll Do

• Lead and grow a small team of AI engineers — setting priorities, reviewing designs, and ensuring technical excellence.
• Architect and maintain retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) pipelines for reliable, context-aware outputs.
• Build and optimize agentic frameworks that drive summarization, insight generation, and intelligent automation.
• Work hands-on to develop LLM pipelines end-to-end, integrating AI services with our .NET and TypeScript platforms.
• Implement and refine function calling capabilities across LLM workflows.
• Design and maintain data ingestion pipelines — scraping, transforming, and maintaining fresh data efficiently and cost-effectively.
• Evaluate and integrate leading models (OpenAI, Anthropic, Mistral, etc.) for accuracy, latency, and cost balance.
• Implement observability, testing, and continuous improvement frameworks for deployed AI features.
• Collaborate with product, engineering, and leadership to align AI development with Symphonee’s broader roadmap.

What We’re Looking For

• 7+ years in software engineering, with 3+ years leading applied AI/ML systems.
• Proven experience designing and deploying LLM, RAG, and agentic systems in production.
• Practical understanding of data engineering fundamentals — scraping, data freshness, transformation, and cost optimization.
• Strong grounding in vector databases, embedding management, prompt optimization, and function calling.
• Experience mentoring or managing engineers in a fast-moving, product-led environment.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills across technical and non-technical stakeholders.
